Caden's Brit Milah

Well Caden would not have made a good Jewish child. He clearly is against the idea of Brit Milah. While he waited until he was 6 days old (not 8, but far more then the average non Jewish child), he had a horrendous experience with it.

Since then he has continuously tried to "heal" himself and reverse the procedure. While bathing him tonight (usually this is dad's job), I noticed that he's done a MIGHTY FINE JOB of reversing the procedure.

My thoughts are, he clearly wouldn't have made a good Jewish child, and/or his destiny IS to be Jewish some day, and when he meets that nice Jewish lady and he decides to convert and take that brave step, his Brit Milah will be as authentic as can be!

More on little man's butt

"I have an overwhelming, unwarrented fear of deep dark cracks....think the gap between the stable floor and the elevator floor. It gives me the willies! Bleachers often upset me as well!"
That is a quote from my facebook page. And its true.
Today a friend made a comment about it:

Your little about me thing under your picture just made me literally laugh out loud. I love that you're afraid of "deep dark cracks." All I picture is you being scared shitless of a butt.
I found myself laughing out loud at her as well. She has NO idea how true that is. My mind went straight to my little mans butt and the deep dark never ending hole (the extra one)! And all I can say is my fears are finally warrented!

My Wee Man is a HANDFUL

Remembering back, I can't really remember meeting Caden. I saw him and touched his cheek but didnt really even get a good look at him. When the time came to leave recovery I was excited to hold him, it didnt occur to me it was taking longer then it should. And then out of left field his doctor comes in to inform me he will be going to Children's Hospital in St. Paul. Talk about catching me a little off guard!!!! I didnt like that surprise one bit.
Today, at his 4 month appointment I was caught off guard again. I knew he had a "dimple" which can be a marker for Spinal Bifida, but I did NOT know it was an open dimple or that they considered him to HAVE it. I guess in my research back when Izze was born, I found out that 24% of the population has some form of spinal defect but becasue it does not affect them, its not a problem.
Then I realize that the bump we have been worried about on his back is TIED to this. It could possibly be "spinal fluid" leaking and causing swelling. But since he moves his legs, we should not worry. Since his nerves are not exposed, there isnt a problem.
As a mother, THAT is hard to hear.
And I did the worst thing you can do. I googled it:
Spina bifida manifesta is the rare form of this birth defect. It can be separated into two classes, meningocele and myelomeningocele.
In meningocele, fluid leaks out of the spinal canal, causing a swollen area over the baby's spine. In many cases, meningocele causes no symptoms.

What causes spina bifida?
Doctors do not know the exact cause of spina bifida but believe that both genetic and environmental factors are involved. Women who have had one child with spina bifida are more likely to have another child with spina bifida. Other factors that may increase the risk for having a baby with spina bifida include:

  • Having folic acid deficiency
  • Taking certain medicines, such as some used to treat epilepsy or acne.
  • Excessive use of alcohol.
  • Exposure to certain chemicals.
  • Exposure to high temperatures.
  • Having diabetes
  • Being obese.

All of those things while pregnant. Can you say GUILT. I was horrible at pre-natals (folic acid), the alcohol--other during conception wasnt an issue, high temperatures--tanning about 3 times a week for the first 8 weeks of pregnancy?, obese--well, technically I wasnt anymore. But still....the GUILT is eating me

Take two.....

Caden is home. For the second time. Lets hope it sticks. We have a doctors appointment today and I'm terrified they will take him away from us for some random reason. Silly I know, he's healthy and doing great.

He slept awesome.

But of course, life can NOT be uneventful. After a very traumatic circumsision, we were under special instructions NOT to touch his penis. "What if thier is poop on it" we ask --"it wont happen" they promise---"but what if"----"its never happend in all of the babies I've ever seen" (I find that hard to believe).

So of course, our boy had to prove those phucers wrong, he shit all over his poor little winky and the dressing we are not allowed to move. It can't be easy

The little stinker has been readmitted to the local hospital for jaundice. I've always pictured jaundice as yellow/green babies, but out little boy is tan....an orange to be exact.

Its all mommy can do not to lose it. I know there are far worse problems out there, but I just want my baby home with me. I dont want to be in the nursery watching him in a box. I dont want to be the bad mom thats NOT there watching him in his box. I can't win........

Our Boy

My boy showed up early and with quite an arrival.

Monday he decided to grace us with his presense. Only to be wisked away by helicopter to Childrens Hospital. Mommy was very upset that she only met him for maybe 3 minutes total. She then had to wait until Wednesday to REALLY meet him.

After another 2 days in the hospital, with issues ranging from breathing, to eating, to billi ruben the child has finally came home to us.

He came in the house with a lovely excited greeting from his sister, and by the end of the night had the darling girl in hysterics over her sudden change of life style.

Mommy and daddy have started thier experinece as parents of "multiple" children by forgetting to feed one child supper, and having one child who wants to play all day and another who would like to party all night. OH THE JOYS.
