Hello, My Name is Grandma

I have been known to tell my husband "at this moment and always I love you, but I don't always have to like you". For the most part who we love or like is a choice. I love my family even when I don't like them, because they are my family. I was given grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, mothers, fathers and later in life even brothers and sisters. I loved them all, all in different ways. Some I love fiercly, some I love quietly, some I love a lot, but don't much like all the time. My husbands family, I have been lucky enough to love because they are lovable, not because I was stuck. One impraticular person just so happens to be the most loveable woman on earth. You meet her and its impossible for her not to steal your heart. She is Grandma.

She is Grandma, not only to her grandchildren but to everyone who meets her. She meets my cousin and says "Hi Bridgette, I'm Grandma" as if it is the only name she has ever known. And it fits. If your lucky enough to know her well, she may become Gram. You don't have to earn her love, your just given it. You don't have to live up to an expectations, because she will accept you and love you just they way you are. Even if you don't appreciate her KC cat or the Vikings, she will still love you.

I've been so blessed to be loved by this woman and to get to love her in return. She is an ageless angel put here on earth to keep us all in line. She makes us want to be better people. She makes us want to be like her. Always a smile to give, an ear to listen. It has been decided that she is going to live forever, so I hope God understands this. To see her sick, hurts my heart. I tell myself not to be sad, because she will be well soon. I remind myself that the worst part of her day isn't being tied to machines and being stuck with needles, its being away from her KC. Because she is a fighter and she is a lover and she is always there. She is Grandma.
