Oriental Chicken Roll Up --Applebees copycat recipe

Alright, in trying to figure out how to pin this recipe the exact way I made it; I had to blog about it first, because well I found a recipe online, read the reviews and then modified it to work for my lazy self. So here goes:

ORIENTAL CHICKEN ROLL UP
(Copy Cat Recipe from Applebees)
Dressing:
  • 6 Tbsp light corn syrup (or honey)
  • 3 tbsp white wine vinigar
  • 1/2 cup mayonaise
  • 2 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon seasame oil

Other ingredients:
  • 4 flour tortillas (burrito size)
  • Tyson (or like brand) chicken tenders; 2-4 servings worth
  • Bag of asian slaw (also called broccoli slaw, it contains shredded broccoli, cabbage and carrots)
  • Chow Mein Noodles (about 1 cup-2 cups)
  • Sliced almonds (1/4 cup)

Start by mixing the dressing ingredients until smooth; and then chill them.

Cook up some crispy chicken tenders according to directions.*
Cut them up into bite sized pieces when they are finished cooking.

Mix a bag of "asian slaw"; in with the dressing.
(it has broccoli, cabbage and carrots)

Add about 1 cup crispy chow mein noodles and 1/4 cup sliced almonds to the salad and dressing.

Use a soft (can warm a few minutes) burrito sized flour tortilla. Fill with salad mix and chicken. Roll up and eat!

You could also make it the salad the long way. By going to this site. Note that it is only enough for one salad and does not include rolling it up. I doubled the recipe and was able to get 4 good sized roll ups.

*We also decided to throw in about 2 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce on the cut up chicken for a different flavor. And because applebees always had a teriyaki type dipping sauce with this particular wrap, though I have yet to find a recipe or name for THAT. Please let me know if you do!

The look

My dear ole' husband is so picky.

We are headed out to BW3's for lunch. I am always down for BW3's but today I just want my sweatpants, not only for the comfort, but the warmth. I told him I'd go to lunch but I wanted to wear my sweat pants. He gave me "the look". I explained that they are WARM. He thinks jeans are warm too. I explained (and tried to make him feel sorry for me) that the only jeans I have that fit comfortably enough to go gorge on wings are my cute holey jeans and therefore NOT warm. I got "the look" again.

FINE I say and stomp away to his side of the closet. Where I swipe his uber comfy Twins' sweatshirt. If I have to be cold on the bottom I'm gonna be comfy and warm on top and maybe despite him; I'll spill some sauce on his best sweatshirt. So there! I guess I showed him!

It is the devil!

So...if you haven't tried it don't! You will become an instant addict and you will be very sorry you tried it. I should have known there was a problem when I was making the batter and felt the need to EAT the batter instead of baking the cake. But I baked it. Good job Cecile, good self restraint! Then it was finished and I could SMELL it, and I thought you MUST wait until it cools, the directions say so. After 45 minutes of waiting and a still warm cake, I gave in. I then immediately LIED to Kevin and told him how horrible it was and warned him to stay clear. Not even 24 hours later it is gone. I'm not sure it ever cooled. My viens are raging with the need for more of it. I MUST have more......

Tastefully Simple Berry Buckle Cake

If you can resist, good for you there is more for me. And if you can't remind yourself that it IS part of the fruit food group!

Obsessing

Have you ever noticed that the more you try NOT to think about something, the more you DO think about it? I mean seriously, the process of NOT thinking is actually a thinking process. So the art of avoiding is a truely hard one to obtain. Don't you agree? Here are some examples:

  • The big blemish (be it a mole, or a zit) smack dab infront of your eyes on someones face. You do all you can to avoid staring, you don't want to be rude, but the more you try to avoid it the more you think about it until you just can't stop staring becasue after all it stared at you first!
  • Secrets, good juicy gossip. You know its wrong to tell or to pass on, but you can't get it off your mind, if you could just tell it, you'd be over it, but because you shouldn't and you try to forget it so you don't think of it, but its ALL you can think about.
  • Food. Whether your trying to diet or not, once you get that thought of something GOOD in your head, it does NOT leave until you have it. You GOTTA have it. Your thoughts revolve around that treat, your friends turn into dancing chicken wings and you yourself turn into fat Albert.

For most people this is the extent of it, big things they obsess about. But for me, I obsess about way more. I"m the person who can't sleep because I want to start my next day's list, I have to write things down at bed so I can sleep. I can't just think about what I'm gonna pack for my vacation in 4 weeks, I have to actually start packing. The idea of having my first baby some day, turned into a get naked and make her event. I am truley just an obsessive being. But that being said, I think we all have a little of that in us....so for now, I'm off to dream of dancing wings and try not to stare at that big ole' zit on your chin!

What food are you....

I was listening to K102 this morning and they had a poll position: If you were a food what food would you be, why. Well, my mind went to all the foods I love, but you can't be it just because you EAT it, you have to BE like it.

So I thought about it, and my favorite still works. I would be Buffalo Wings because: The majority of the time, I'm a spicy spicy girl. If you can't handle that and your worth it, I can be mild for you too. If you love me, you really love me, and if you don't, you really don't. I am what I am and there is no messing with that, so if you don't like it, deal with it and don't have me. However once you've had me and decide you like me....you can't get enough of me, you have to have me, and you have to have me a lot! I am great by myself, but if you add a little side dressing to me then I'm absolutely perfect!

So what food are you?

SUPER Sunday

Whether you watch for the commercials or for the game, whether you root for the Colts or the Bears, whether you watch alone or at a party, SUPER Sunday is all the same. Its a SUPER excuse to eat. You can NOT, tune in on SUPER Sunday wihtout something that is scrum-didilly-dumpsious. Thats the first law. The second would be you are not allowed to tune in without something GREAT and prefereable alchoholic. Beer would be the optimal choice, but for those of us who don't do beer, you need something that is in the malt beverage catagory. Of course there is the amendment to this law for our friends who are NOT able to drink, due to babies in their tummies, ages on their IDs, or addictions in thier head. So whatever reason you have to watch, make sure you have something GOOD to eat, and something STONG to drink and ENJOY!
