Running, Day 2

There is NO excuse for the baby weight any more. It took 9 months to go on, and its had 13 to come off, but there is still a very stubborn 8 lbs that will not go anywhere, and thats NOT including the weight I didn't want BEFORE I was pregnant.

So activity is key here. Since I am a very mean person if you try to take away my buffalo wings or mexican. I hate the TIME it takes to have a good work out, its not very efficiant if you ask me. Therfore, as much as I DETEST running, I am trying to learn.

I am starting with intervals, walk a block, run a block, walk a block, run a block. I will increas the length of those intervals until I get a good distance going. Yesterday, day one, I managed about a mile and a half in about 25 minutes. Today I did the same distance in 20 minutes. I know I should have attempted to go farther on day two, but day one created some shin splints, so day two is a little more painful. Perhaps I will go back later and do a second 20 minutes. But so far, its better than nothing.

If you're starting to get shin splints from running, you can go to a running store and they can fit you for shoes. I had horrible shin splints for years until I found good shoes for my foot type... after that I trained for ran 5, 8, 10, 26.2 mile races with no problems. The more you run with the wrong shoes the worse the problem gets.

PS. This is Veggie_Mom from BBC, although I am rarely on BBC anymore.

PPS. Good for you for running!! You are going to have a blast running after your little girl!

Laura: Thanks for that advice! I have to ask, have you always enjoyed running? I'm not sure if it is something you can learn to love or get good at but I'm HOPING it is.

Oh, and I recognized you right away! Thanks again for any advice you have to offer!

Haha, that is hilarious that you ask that. I always HATED running. I played other sports my whole life, mostly tennis. When I graduated from college it was hard to find tennis partners to keep up the fitness so I started running. Running is cheap, you can do it anywhere, and it is a great all-body workout.

It wasn't until the very first time that I hit that "runner's high" that I realized WHY people keep running. But even now until I get into my groove and hit that high, running sucks. Then as soon as I get into the groove, I feel pretty awesome and want to keep going and going.

I even mentioned this on my blog recently!

I would say new runners! Go to a specialty running store and get fit! You will be amazed at how well you will feel. Like running on little clouds or pillows! Get yourself some running gear too! Make yourself FEEL like a runner. That has always helped me.

There are lots of great learn to run programs out there, probably online too. Like www.coolrunning.com and www.runningroom.com

Even Runners World Magazine. Good for you! Have fun with it, and take it easy! Enjoy every moment!
