For My Canadian Friends....

I layed in bed last night thinking about this, so I thought it was only right that I blog about it.

It has always baffeled me why there are two ways to write certain words that mean the same thing and I believe are pronounced the exact same thing. I mean I get it when the words have different meanings: two, to, too. But there are some words that just don't make sense to me. How do I know which to use? Or do I not use any of the second options, because I'm American? Now that I have all of these Canadian friends, I'm noticing these spellings go hand in hand with them....but again, maybe they are not pronounced the same, I have yet to HEAR these words said. I know its not a matter of right versus wrong, but is there a difference....
What do you think?

Check or Cheque

Favorite or Favourite

Color or Colour

Labor or Labour

There are more, I know there are more, I just can not think of them....
It all just makes me want to sing a little "Lets call the whole thing off..."

"You say ToeMaeToe, I say ToeMoToe, You say PoeTaeToe, I say PoeToToe".....

Good news, they aren't pronounced any differently!! lol. Canada and Britain have the same spelling for those words, so we aren't the only ones. I often forget to use the 'proper' Canadian spelling and usually use the American version of words. I spell Cheque that way, but labor, favorite, and color I spell the 'american' way!!

Thanks!! lol

I would have to say that I use all of the "Canadian" versions of the word.

What about center...like as in Babycenter...freaks me out when I read it because in Canada it *should* read centre

Cheers!
